Cartoon of the Week
051407NOTE: I was number 93. I waited at the supermarket's deli counter since number 80. How long could this possibly take? I thought. 12 orders before me, 5 workers "speeding" through them. How long? It felt like forever, in fact I feel like Im still there. Each time they hit that button, I was there ready to pounce. 81...82...83...84...85... You'd never know if they'd sneak in a 1-2 punch and (gasp) skip my number. And every number called that wasn't mine, I was certain to listen into that customer's order and judge it with whatever unfounded criticism could come to mind: 86.... "No of course they don't have Boar's Head limpdick.... " 87.... "Loser move your cart out of the aisle..." 88... "Do you really need a family of 5 to stand around and wait for 1 lb of deli meat?" 89... "This guy didn't even take a number, cutter, cutter I know he's cutting" A few more insults later and.... then there it was in big red lights, my number, 93. But what was this? My number was on the board but nobody officially called it out. Where was the worker who was going to get the honor of taking my order? The God of Cold Cuts was playing a huge trick on me. This was going terribly wrong. "Who's got Number 93?" I called out. "Oh we're not ready for it yet" "Well as long as nobody forgets and skips right to 94" "Nope we won't skip 93, Nobody skip 93" By that time I was the old guard at the counter. I was a veteran customer in waiting. Everyone else was just newbie material, freaking amateurs. Nobody and I mean nobody would dis me yo. No customer, no deli slicer. Sure enough, not even 15 seconds later, "Number 94" "No no no Number 93, not 94" I said loud enough. Loud enough to make the deli worker who hit the button, shake her head and go straight to break without acknowledging my existence. Good riddance, you are not worthy to slice my meat. You are weak. I am strong. I have a paper number that says so. Now I'm here to be served. Kneel before Zod. Ah whatever. So what does this have to do with the cartoon of a preapproved set of clothing permissible for the public eye ? Nothing at all.
